Duo Etiquette: What Gets Discussed and What Doesn't
The unwritten rules that save both sides a ruined evening.
This format runs on rules that aren't written down anywhere, but breaking them wrecks an evening faster than almost anything else. None of them are about manners โ they're about respecting what was agreed.
What's settled beforehand
- Format, length, and the end time
- Dress code โ specific, not "something nice"
- Route and number of stops
- Who covers bills and transfer
- Photos and whether anything gets posted
What doesn't get asked
Real names, where either woman lives, family, how she came into this line of work. It isn't coyness or a secret โ it's the line past which private life starts, and private life has nothing to do with the evening. The same rule runs the other way: you won't be quizzed about your own life either.
Punctuality
Running late eats into the booking โ it doesn't push it back. If you're going to be delayed, say so ahead of time; that alone solves most of the friction.
Changing terms on the spot
The single most common way an evening goes wrong. What was agreed before the meeting doesn't get renegotiated during it โ not the time, not the route, not anything else. If something different is needed, that's a separate conversation, arranged ahead.
Drinking
A drink or two for company, within reason, is normal. Pushing drinks on either woman reads as exactly what it is, and ends the evening.
